I Look Forward To...
As I was walking with my sister, Carissa, a few weeks ago, the topic of what we looked forward to each day came up. As I thought about it, I was very disappointed to find that there was nothing I looked forward to (besides Cam coming home). Comparing life today to my days of being a student-athlete with a job was very depressing because I felt that nothing in my recent life was really being achieved, gained, or accomplished.
I decided to change my perspective and my attitude about my lifelong adjustment. Here's what I found that I look forward to each day--I consider these things blessings.
~ I look forward to running/feeling energized with Carissa at 6:15am every morning. It starts the day off right when I exercise.
~ I look forward to coming home and either climbing back into bed with Cam, and cuddling, or showering and having breakfast with him.
~ I look forward to breakfast--or any meal, for that matter--and I look forward to preparing each one.
~ I look forward to walking into Parker's room and having him smile at me (even if it is through hungry sobs).
~ I look forward to getting him dressed; his chubbiness is too cute not to tickle or blow raspberries on.
~ I look forward to his squeals as he tests his vocal chords.
~ I look forward to working on my novel no matter how frustrating it is.
~ I look forward to Parker's nap times (usually around 11am, 2pm, and, if we're lucky, 4:30pm) when I can at least have 30-45 minutes of "me" time.
~ I look forward to Carissa's visits and family's phone calls.
~ I look forward to the time Cam gets home for lunch and for the end of the day.
~ I look forward to Cam just being here; and when we play games, it's even better.
~ I look forward to the random, tiny things I get done each day like making breadcrumbs in the blender, filling the rice container, or cleaning all the doors and other random items.
~ I look forward to Parker's giggles when Cam or I do something (apparently) funny.
~ I look forward to Parker's smile as he watches Daddy play basketball.
~ I look forward to the winding down of the day when I can reflect, write in my journal, read scriptures and pray with Cam, and cuddle with him and talk before we fall asleep.
I'm sure I've missed something. But one thing that this adjustment to motherhood has taught me is to look for(ward to) and be grateful for even the littlest things. I doubt I ever would have spotted such beautiful, life changing things--no matter the size--had it not been for my present situation.
